Hey, Ho, Old Moon Glow

 By Michael L. Alumbaugh © February 11, 2015

Ever want sometime way down deep inside? I mean, you don't tell a single person, yet your heart cries out for it from deep within your soul.

You pray and wait. And, then, wait and pray. The heavens seem as brass. No answer comes, so you keep crying out from the anguish of your innermost being. THAT is what is called "your hearts desire." You feel like giving up.

Then, when hope seems lost, the answer comes. That cavernous emptiness is suddenly filled as if from a fountain of life filling it with living water. And it is. Then, the praises resound! Not some hands folded pious reserved yippee, but the mountains ring from shouts of praise!

Psalm 37:4-6 reads: "Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday."

Now we like to intervene, but it doesn't work that way. Delight in Him! Commit your ways to Him! He will bring it to pass. Need patience? Gain wait. This song is about waiting. (4:30)

Jenny was a pretty girl.
She could dance and she could twirl
And sing.
Oh, how she could sing!

She was just a simple girl.
A wife and mother was the world
She dreamed.
In her soul she dreamed.

There upon a moonlit night
Gazing at the stars so bright
She’d pray . . . and sing.

Jackie was a man of men.
He could play the mandolin.
It’d sing.
He could make it sing!

Jackie, he had fiery hair,
A loving smile and a gift so rare;
A ring,
A golden diamond ring.

There upon a moonlit night
Underneath the stars so bright
He’d play . . . and sing.

Chorus: “Hey, Ho, old moon glow.
Where’s the girl who’ll make my heart
To sing?
Who’ll make my heart to sing?”

“Hey, Ho, old moon glow.
Where’s the girl to fill my soul
And ring?
Who will wear my ring?”

There upon a moonlit night
Gazing at the stars so bright
He played . . . and dreamed.

Summer soon turned into Fall
And every night you’d hear the call
They’d bring.
It made the mountains ring.

Then one night an autumn wind
Gently carried off their hymns
And then . . .
A stillness settled in.

There upon a moonlit night
Heavenward their songs took flight,
. . . Soaring with the wind.

Winter snows were gone at last.
Breezes thawed the mountain pass.
T’was spring.
Winter turned to spring.

Jenny, on a star filled night,
Wondered at a heavenly sight,
A ring,
The moon, it wore a ring.

There upon a moonlit night
Gazing at the stars so bright
Her soul . . . began to sing!

Now Jackie played his mandolin
And called upon the moon again
To bring . . .
Hope for him to bring.

Suddenly, her Song so fair,
Lifted him, it filled the air.
“Heart sing!”
It caused his heart to sing!

There upon a moonlit night
Gazing at the stars so bright
He began . . . to play and sing.
He sang . . .

Chorus: “Hey, Ho, old moon glow.
That’s the girl who makes my heart
To sing!
She’s made my heart to sing!”

“Hey, Ho, old moon glow.
That’s the girl who fills my soul
And ring!
She will wear my ring!”

There upon a moonlit night
They held each other, oh so tight,
And dreamed!

There upon that moonlit night
They held each other, oh so tight,
And dreamed . . . How they dreamed!

The Call

By Michael L. Alumbaugh © January 11, 2015, Revised April 2017

There are times in every man’s life when he says something really stupid. Then, there are other times when he does them. There are costs to both.

Here we have a guy who is willing to admit he was wrong and is seeking a fresh start. Will the attempt to right the wrong fall on deaf ears or will they succeed? That's the mystery.

The old sayings abound: "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." or "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." Some of us will be getting a speeding ticket. On the other hand, "Miracles never cease." But don't get too cocky. Be humble, for as it says in 1 Corinthians 10:12, "So the one who thinks he is standing firm should be careful lest he fall."

(Beeeeeep!  Beeeeeep! Beeeeeep! Beeeeeep!)
(Female voice speaking:)
 Hello. I’m Sorry
But I can’t come to the phone.
Just leave me a message
After the tone.
(Beep!)

(Song)
Hello, Babe?
This is your favorite fool
And I am calling
To try to talk to you
And all that I want to say is
“I love you.”

Hello, Babe?
Yes, I have been untrue
And I am trying
To make it up to you
‘Cause all that I want to say is
“I love you.”

I know I don’t
Deserve to talk to you
But if you’ll only
Let just one call through.
Well, if you’ll go
That extra mile
I think I know
How I can make you smile!

So come on, Babe
Pick up that phone
Or I’ll keep dialing
No need to be alone
‘Cause all that I want to say is
“I love you.”

You know that fool?
Well, he has said goodbye
And he is sorry
He ever made you cry
‘Cause all that he wanted to say is
“I love you!”

I know I don’t
Deserve to talk to you
But if you’ll only
Let just one call through.
Well, if you’ll go
That extra mile
I think I know
How I can make you smile!

So, come on Babe!
Pick up that phone
Or I’ll keep dialing
Hit that “Accept” icon
‘Cause all that I want to say is
“I love you!”

Oh, yeah, I know
That I have been untrue
And I am sorry
I ever made you  blue
Now, all that I want to say is
“I love you!”

I know I don’t
Deserve to talk to you
But if you’ll only
Let just one call through.
Well, if you’ll go
That extra mile
I think I know
How I can make you smile!

So, Hello Babe
This is your favorite fool
And I’ve been calling
To try to talk to you
‘Cause all that I want to say is
“I love you!”
