Stone Cold

By Michael L. Alumbaugh, © 2005, 2010

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;  - Eph. 5:25

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. - Rev. 2:4 – 5

He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: - Eph. 5:28 – 29

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. – Matt. 24:12 – 13

As I look at you tonight
In the moons ghostly light
I sense that there is something very wrong.
I can see it in your eyes,
You have seen through my disguise.
The precious love we shared is all but gone.
Somehow things had become slanted
And I'd taken you for granted,
Never thinking I was breaking us in two.
Can I ever stop the hurtin’?
Have we reached the final curtain?
Can we piece it back together?
Are we through?

Is it cold? (Stone cold!)
Has our love really ended?
Is it cold? (Stone cold!)
Please say it can be mended!
Loves fiery flame has dwindled.
Can it ever be rekindled?
Or is it cold? (Is it cold?)
Stone cold?

On the day that we were wed
I remember what we said,
How we'd love and serve each other till we died.
Now it seems so long ago.
Somehow I grew cold in my soul
And turned that cherished vow into a lie.
But my wandering days are through.
And my heart's come back to you.
The deadman who had left is now alive.
Those other loves are gone!  They're over!
Can you just forgive this rover?
Can we make loves embers fly up to the sky?

Or are they cold? (Stone cold!)
Has our love really ended?
Is it cold? (Stone cold!)
Please say it can be mended!
It seems I threw our love away.
Is there nothing else to say?
Is it cold? (Is it cold?)
Stone cold?

---------- Bridge ----------

Stone cold! (Stone cold!)
Has our love really ended?
Is it cold? (Stone cold!)
Can our love ever be mended?
Please don't say that we are through
'Cause I'm still in love with you!
So don't be cold! (Stone cold!)
Stone cold!

Stone cold? (Stone cold!)
Can we start again together?
Stone cold? (Stone cold!)
When we vowed it meant forever!
Have we reached the final end?
Will we ever love again?
Or is it cold? (Is it cold?)
Stone cold?

Stone cold? (Stone cold!)
Can we start again together?
Stone cold? (Stone cold!)
When we vowed it meant forever!
Stone cold? (Stone cold!)
Can we start again together?
Stone cold? (Stone cold!)
When we vowed it meant forever!
